Previously, the Big Mac was the most inventive burger. However, McDonald's must move beyond
its decades-old successes to remain number one. Naturally, its firm needs an innovation lab.
A new innovation hub, Speedee Labs, will be opened at the chain's Chicago headquarters. According to Restaurant Business, the moniker
was borrowed from McDonald's pre-Ronald McDonald mascot and the 1948 service system employed to accelerate service.
The 15,000-square-foot Lab will integrate the chain's Romeoville, Illinois-based innovation team with its corporate team. Expect it in the second half of 2023.
"The creation of Speedee Labs will enable more of our customers, restaurant teams, markets, and global teams to contribute to our
innovation while driving growth and creating more seamless and memorable McDonald's experiences," adds CCO Manu Steijart.
In addition to McDelivery, mobile order and pay, and streamlined kitchen procedures, the chain's Innovation
Center has improved cooking methods. Thus, we can only envision the new and enhanced labs' results.
Mickey D's has sent us some hints. The chain partnered with IBM in 2021 to build its automated order-taking screens and drive-thru lanes.
